Schools - public
The St. Louis Park School District is the only district in Minnesota, possibly the nation, to have every one of its public schools recognized as a National School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. Schools of Excellence are national models for academic performance, attendance, up-to-date and rigorous core curriculum and instruction, a positive and caring atmosphere, and parent and community involvement. In addition, St. Louis Park High School was named to Newsweek Magazine's listing of top high schools in the U. S. St. Louis Park's ranking was 526 out of 737 schools named to the list which was compiled using a ratio called the Challenge Index.
For detailed information about the St. Louis Park Public Schools, click on their web site at www.slpschools. org.

Registering for kindergarten
To enroll in kindergarten, children must be five years old by September 1. Please register your kindergartner before the first day of school (usually the first weekday after Labor Day) and bring your child's birth certificate to registration. If you're moving here from another community, please call the nearest primary school during the school year or the district office during the summer.
- District office: (952) 928-6000
- Peter Hobart Primary Center: (952) 928-6600
- Aquila Primary Center: (952) 928-6500
If you're moving within St. Louis Park, it's likely that your child is already on the district census and will receive an invitation to kindergarten registration and assessment. However, if you don't receive a letter by January 15, please call the nearest primary school.
Beginning in the fall of 2005, the school district will begin offering an option to half-day kindergarten. Families will be able to register for full-day kindergarten, a tuition-based program, that will be located in Peter Hobart and Aquila.
