Vision St. Louis Park
Vision St. Louis Park is a community-wide strategic plan aimed at creating a community so special that people will make a conscious choice to make St. Louis Park their lifelong home. It was created by individuals representing government, schools, businesses, community organizations, religious institutions, and neighborhoods. Vision St. Louis Park represents the inspiration for many projects being implemented by the city, school district and chamber of commerce.
In 2005 and 2006, eight vision action teams
consisting of participants from throughout the community, worked for six months to put together goals, action steps, timelines and suggestions for additional partnerships. The teams also developed a one-page statement on what St. Louis Park will look like in 2016 should their dreams come true.
With the involvement of more than 750 residents, workers, businesspeople, organizations and agencies, the initiative has created a road map for the future of our city and fostered a strong community spirit.
From this work, on March 19, 2007, the St. Louis Park City Council developed the Vision Strategic Directions 18 month Guide
to begin implementing the Vision recommendations. This 18-month guide is a first step to realizing Vision St. Louis Park, using the work of the action teams as a guide to moving forward over the next decade.
The Strategic Directions are:
- St. Louis Park is committed to being a connected and engaged community.
- St. Louis Park is committed to being a leader in environmental stewardship. We will increase environmental consciousness and responsibility in all areas of city business.
- St. Louis Park is committed to providing a well-maintained and diverse housing stock.
- St. Louis Park is committed to promoting and integrating arts, culture, and community aesthetics in all city initiatives, including implementation where appropriate.
In July 2007, the City Council received an update on activities related to Vision and the Council's Strategic Directions at its July 23rd Study Session
. The City Manager will update the Council quarterly, with the next update scheduled for November 2007. The city is excited about the work that has been accomplished and looks forward to seeing what we discover on this journey called Vision St. Louis Park.
All of this would not have been accomplished without the help and dedication of the program’s five partners: City of St. Louis Park, St. Louis Park School District, Park Nicollet, TwinWest Chamber and Children First. Funding for Vision St. Louis Park came from McKnight, Park Nicollet Foundation and the St. Louis Park Community Education.
Thanks to everyone who was involved. The best is yet to come!
