Diverse Housing

Diverse housing stock
Fern Hill Neighborhood

St. Louis Park is committed to providing a well-maintained and diverse housing stock.

Focus areas for this strategic direction include:

- Remodeling and expanding move-up, single-family owner-occupied homes.

- Property maintenance to foster quality housing and community aesthetics.

- Working toward affordable single-family home ownership throughout the city.

Vision in Action - City's property nuisance complaint line aims to assist residents

The city’s goal is for all residents to live together in harmony and for property owners to maintain their homes and yards. Realizing issues sometimes arise that require city attention, the St. Louis Park Inspections Department offers the “RAP” Line.

The RAP Line (Report A Problem), enables residents to contact the city on the telephone with concerns about a neighborhood issue they suspect may be a code violation. According to Inspector Kimberly Bretza, leaving a message at this number – (952) 924-2126 - is the best way to reach the department.

“We ask that people leave a message for inspectors on the RAP Line when they have a concern,” Bretza said. “We check it every day and it’s a much more efficient use of staff time.”

Callers to the RAP Line are asked to leave a message detailing the problem and its location, and the caller’s phone name and phone number.

While calls are encouraged, Inspector Terre Packham said residents should check the city ordinance first to see if the issue is actually a violation, and gather facts, such as frequency and the responsible party.

“Our main focus is public safety,” Packham said. “Every code is based on safety and health issues.”

Property maintenance issues, nuisances, graffiti, code violations, unsafe infrastructure – anything that threatens public health and safety or even curb appeal would be a reason to call the RAP Line. After receiving the call, a city inspector will investigate the situation and enforce the appropriate codes and ordinances to bring any violations into compliance.

The RAP Line number again is (952) 924-2126.
