About Backyard Composting

updated: Wednesday, May 16, 2012

According to the 2009 Recycling Recovery Rate Study for St. Louis Park, almost half (42.1%) of the materials in residential garbage carts consists of organic materials (food scraps and non-recyclable paper products).  Putting food scraps into a compost bin saves space in your garbage cart - it can also save you money.  Having less trash means you can switch to a smaller garbage cart and the money you save by using your own finished compost instead of buying bagged compost can be significant.

St. Louis Park has several resources to help you learn about backyard composting in the city:

Workshops are posted on the Events page.
