2011 Street Sealcoating

updated: Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Current Status
Staff is working with the contractor to correct much of the work in the Kilmer Neighborhood as a result of the heavy rains following the sealcoat application last summer. Work on some problem areas is expected to occur later on summer. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Project Description
Sealcoating is a cost-effective preventive maintenance practice that consists of applying a coating of liquid asphalt to the street surface and then covering the asphalt with a thin layer of rock chips. The rock is embedded into the asphalt with a roller and the excess rock is swept up in the following days with a street sweeper. This process provides a sealed, protective surface that extends the life of the street.

This past year’s sealcoat area included work on selected streets in the Kilmer, Westdale, Crestview, Westwood Hills and Cedar Manor Neighborhoods (see map). Residents in the Kilmer Neighborhood will receive notice prior to future work, sometime in the spring or summer of 2012.
