Excelsior Boulevard Reconstruction

Current Status
The final phase of construction resumed on Monday, April 23rd, beginning with construction of the center medians. During this work, traffic has been reduced to a single lane in each direction. Following completion of the center medians, the contractor will install the remaining landscape and streetscape amenities. The contractor has scheduled paving of the final layer of asphalt for the week of May 21: Expect back-ups and delays while this work occurs. Final striping of the roadway will be occurring the following week. With final clean-up, the project is anticipated to be completed by early June.

Project Description
The Hennepin County Transportation Department is reconstructing Excelsior Boulevard between Dakota Avenue and Louisiana Avenue. In addition to reconstruction of the street itself, the project will include lighting and street scape improvements similar to those recently completed for segments of the roadway further east. The project includes replacement of the bridge over Minnehaha Creek.

Construction started in June of 2010 and is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2012.
