Crime Definitions
Assault:
An unlawful attack by one person upon another. There are 5 degrees of assault based on the seriousness of the attack or threat of attack and whether or not a weapon was used. First Degree Assault is the most serious and Fifth Degree is the lease serious.

Burglary (Breaking and Entering)
Unlawful entry or attempted forcible entry of a residential dwelling, building or other structure to commit a theft or other crime.

Call for Service
Any request for service or assistance received by the police department and recorded in the Computer Aided Dispatch System, whether or not a crime has occurred. A call for service may or may not generate a police report depending on the nature of the call.

An incident or activity prohibited by law.

To willfully or maliciously destroy, disfigure or deface any public or private property without the consent of the owner or person having custody or control of the property.

Robbery
Forcible taking of property or attempted taking of property from another person against his/her will by violence or fear. In a robbery, the victim is directly confronted by the perpetrator and is threatened with force or put in fear that force will be used.

The theft of articles from a locked or unlocked motor vehicle.
