To be eligible to vote, a person must be 18 or older on the day of the election, a United States citizen, have maintained residence in Minnesota for 20 days before the election, and be properly registered.
You must re-register if:
-- Your name, address or apartment number changes.
-- You have not voted in four years.
A person may not register if they have been convicted of a felony and their felony sentence has not expired (been completed) and their civil rights have not been restored, or if they are under a court-ordered guardianship in which the court order revoked their right to vote. Voters can register on Election Day with proper identification. For more information and to request a Voter Registration Application, contact the City Clerk’s office (952) 924-2505.
At least 20 days before the election day:
- Complete a Voter Registration Application, available at most government offices and public libraries. Or you can download a Voter Registration Application from the Secretary of State's Web site.
- Register in person, or mail the application to the St. Louis Park City Clerk or Hennepin County Voter Registration Office.
To register at the polling place on election day, you must have authorized proof of residence:
- Valid Minnesota Driver's License, Learner's Permit or receipt of either with current address located in precinct.
- Valid Minnesota I.D. or receipt with current address located in precinct.
- A registered voter in the precinct who can vouch for you.
- Registration in the same precinct indicating a previous address.
- Mailed notice from the Registration Office indicating ineffective registration.
- Students can show their address in the precinct by using a current fee statement and an I.D. card.
- A tribal I.D. with name, address, signature, and picture of the individual.
- A voter may also register using a combination of one approved photo ID (column 1) and one approved utility bill (column 2):
You can vote absentee ballot if you are unable to vote in person on election day because you are:
- Absence from Precinct
- Illness or Disability
- Religious Discipline or Observance of Religious Holiday
- Serve as an Election Judge in another Precinct
Call our election line at (952) 924-2505 to request an absentee application be sent to you, or you may download the absentee application from Absentee Ballot APPLICATION. You may either fax the complete application to the City Clerk at (952) 924-2170 or send it to City of St. Louis Park, Attn: City Clerk, 5005 Minnetonka Blvd, St. Louis Park, 55416.
You can cast your Absentee BALLOT in two ways:
In person at City Hall during the City Clerk's regular hours Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additionally, the City Clerk's Office will have extended hours for in-person absentee voting at City Hall on:
- the Saturday immediately prior to election day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- the Monday before election day until 5 p.m.
By mail. Please allow at least seven days to complete the process.
Absentee Ballots CANNOT be delivered directly to a polling place.
On Election Day, voters may go the polls to vote, but CANNOT deliver their own absentee ballots to any election officials.

What is Absentee Voting?
You may vote by absentee ballot prior to election day for one of the following reasons:
- Absence from your precinct (away from home)
- Serving as an election judge in another precinct
- Religious discipline or religious holiday

General Election
Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The easiest way to vote by absentee ballot is to do so in person, at city hall starting 30 days prior to Election Day during the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Contact the City Clerk’s office at 952-924-2505 to request an absentee voting application by mail.
