  • State surcharge is .0005 times the total job valuation. Call the Inspections Department at 952-924-2588 for state surcharges on all permits valued $1,000,000.00 or more.
  • When applicable, a plan review charge equal to 65% of the building permit fee will be added.
  • For residential, non-structural remodeling, the plan review fee is equal to 35% of the building permit fee.
  • Metropoliton Council SAC fees are $2,365.00 unit and are calculated during plan review.



Electrical permit fees

Electrical permits for installation, replacement or repair shall be $45.00 + 1.75% of the job valuation, plus the state surcharge.
(State surcharge is .0005 times the job valuation. Call the Inspections Department at 952-924-2588 for state surcharges on all permits valued at $1,000,000.00 or more).

When applicable, a plan review charge equal to 35% of the electrical permit fee will be added.

Exceptions:
Installation, replacement, or repair of a single electrical appliance or device within a single family dwelling shall be $45.00 + 5.00* = $50.00
Installation of a new traffic signal per location shall be $150 + 5.00* = $155
*State surcharges are calculated at $5 for single item permits issued under this exception



Mechanical Permit Fees

For installation, replacement or repair shall be $45.00 + 1.75% of the job valuation, plus the state surcharge.

(State surcharge is .0005 times the job valuation. Call the Inspections Department at 952-924-2588 for state surcharges on all permits valued at $1,000,000.00 or more).

When applicable, a plan review charge equal to 35% of the mechanical permit fee will be added.

Exceptions:
1) Replacement of a furnace, a boiler, or a furnace and an air conditioner within a single family dwelling shall be $62.00 + $5.00* = $67.00

2) Installation of a single fuel burning appliance, including fuel piping to the appliance, within a single family dwelling shall be $62.00 + 5.00* = $67.00
3) Installation, replacement or repair of a single mechanical appliance within a single family dwelling that is not included in Exceptions 1 or 2 shall be $45.00 + 5.00* = $50.00.

*State surcharges are calculated at $5.00 for single item permits issued under this exceptions



Plumbing Permit Fees

Demolition permit fees

Exemption: If a new residential garage permit is being applied for that includes the existing garage demolition, on the same permit application, the demolition fee and deposit are not required. However, if a single family garage will be demolished without a new garage being applied for on the same permit application, the exemption isn’t allowed...


Sewer and Water Permit Fees

The cost of a permit is based on the type and amount of work to be done.

$73.00 + 5.00= $78.00 to repair or replace a single sewer service or a single water service for a single family dwelling
OR
$45.00 plus 1.75 percent of the jobs value, plus the state surcharge

  • State surcharge is .0005 times the job valuation. Call the Inspections Department at (952) 924-2588 for state surcharges on all permits valued $1 million or more.
  • When applicable, a plan review charge equal to 35 percent of the electrical permit fee will be added.

Note: Additional fees may be necessary if working in the City right-of-way. In this case, a separate Public Works Permit must be submitted with the Sewer and Water Permit application. Call the Inspections Department at (952) 924-2588 for fees.
