I found a bird with a band attached to its leg. What should I do?
Write down all of the information that is on the band and either call us at (952) 924-2543, email us at Bird Band Reporting or stop by the nature center building. If the bird is dead, place in a Ziploc bag and bring to the nature center. (We have the appropriate federal and state permits necessary to salvage protected birds.)

I found an injured, baby, orphaned and/or troubled animal. What should I do?
In almost all cases, Westwood Hills Nature Center encourages anyone who finds an injured, orphaned or baby animal to leave it where they found it, protect it from children and domestic pets, and let nature take its course. Many young wild animals, especially birds and rabbits, are often mistaken for being orphaned when they are not. Wild animals should not be handled with bare hands, treated like pets, given food or water, or taken indoors, except under the direction of a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Visit this link for more specific information.
