Minnehaha Creek Restoration Nearly Completeupdated: Monday, September 09, 2013
Work on restoring natural curves to the Minnehaha Creek is essentially complete.
The remeandering project, which started early winter 2012, wrapped up in February 2013. By April or May, a pipe will be installed that will bring stormwater from Excelsior Boulevard into a new treatment pond.
In all, 4,500 feet of the creek — from Louisiana Avenue to Meadowbrook Road — has been restored with this project.
It’s a continuation of a 2009 project that restored a portion of the creek east of Louisiana and also brought the Methodist Hospital boardwalk.
Returning the creek to a more natural shape slows the water down, reduces erosion and creates habitat.
