Minnehaha Creek Restoration Nearly Complete
updated: Tuesday, April 30, 2013Work on restoring natural curves to the Minnehaha Creek is essentially complete.
The remeandering project, which started earlier this winter, wrapped up in February. By April or May, a pipe will be installed that will bring stormwater from Excelsior Boulevard into a new treatment pond.
In all, 4,500 feet of the creek — from Louisiana Avenue to Meadowbrook Road — has been restored with this project.
It’s a continuation of a 2009 project that restored a portion of the creek east of Louisiana and also brought the Methodist Hospital boardwalk.
Returning the creek to a more natural shape slows the water down, reduces erosion and creates habitat.
