U of MN Students complete Capstone Project
updated: Tuesday, April 17, 2012U of MN Humphrey Institute Graduate students use St. Louis Park to complete their Capstone Project – “Heart of the Park”
Four students, Anders Imboden, Lindsey Knutson, Lyssa Leitner and Kelly Muellman, from the U of MN Humphrey Institute recently completed their Capstone Project -“Heart of the Park,” which examined the Lake Street/Wooddale Avenue area in St. Louis Park. The purpose of their project was to assess the economic and community development potential of transitway investments in the Wooddale LRT/Lake Street area. The project included interviews with property owners and business leaders in the area. It also built on existing City plans and the future light rail proposed near this corridor. Capstone reports are required for students completing a Master’s Degree at the Humphrey Institute School of Public Affairs. The City Council will not be taking action on this report; however Heart of the Park provides insight on the student’s perspective of the history and future development potential of the Lake Street/Wooddale area. Heart in the Park was recently selected by the American Planning Association - Minnesota Chapter as the winner of the 2011 Outstanding Student Project award. The award will be presented at the APA's annual conference in St. Cloud at the end of September.
