St. Louis Park Fire Chief named 2009 Fire Officer of the Year

St. Louis Park, Minn. – The Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association (MSFCA) has named St. Louis Park Fire Chief Luke Stemmer its 2009 Officer of the Year for all cities statewide with a population of more than 2,000 people.

Stemmer has been a part of the fire service for more than 30 years, and after climbing through the ranks of St. Louis Park’s fire department, he became chief in 2001. The MSFCA is made up of more than 2,000 chief fire officers that represent nearly 600 departments in Minnesota. To read complete press releasepdf icon

Utilities Superintendent honored with prestigious award

St. Louis Park, Minn.— The City of St. Louis Park’s Utilities Superintendent, Scott Anderson, was awarded the Leonard N. Thompson Award at the annual Minnesota Section of the American Water Works Association (MN -AWWA) conference held in Duluth, MN. on Oct. 1. The award is given annually to the MN-AWWA member that gives the most back to the North Central Section and water supply industry.
 
The prestigious Leonard N. Thompson award began in 1960 and is named for the former St. Paul Water Utility employee who served that city for 34 years. Thompson was instrumental in many of the concepts and plans that still serve the City of St. Paul.  He also spent countless hours on the AWAA board—twice serving as president. Step To It Community Challenge
All ages

The Step To It Community Challenge is a fun, light-hearted way to connect with family, friends, and neighbors and get moving again after a long winter. Eighteen cities will compete to see which one has the most active residents. Participants from each city will have a chance to be honored by Hennepin County and the Minnesota Twins at a Twins home game during the 2010 season. As a Step To It participant, you will keep an ongoing total of the steps you take during the challenge.

 

Using an activity conversion chart other activities such as biking, skateboarding, Tai Chi, or even just mowing the lawn can count toward overall steps. A website will  allow you to record your steps online. Best of all, it's FREE! Registrants receive a free pedometer while supplies last.
