Adopt-A-Hydrant
Volunteers help ensure that firefighters have fast access to fire hydrants in residential neighborhoods.
Requirements
- Shovel snow away from one hydrant after each snowfall for one winter.

Adopt-A-Park
Individuals who enjoy working outdoors visit a park of their choice weekly to pick up litter. They also report any vandalism or repair needs to the Manager of Grounds and Natural Resources.
Requirements
- Volunteer one to three hours a week during the summer. (Assignments can be worked around summer vacation schedules.)
- Pass a criminal history background check.

Adopt-A-Street
Organizations or individuals pick up litter twice a year from a segment of street that's at least mile long. The city provides vests and litter bags as well as a sign indicating the organization, community group, family, or volunteer group that has adopted the street.
Requirements
- Pick up litter once each spring and autumn
- Two year commitment.

How to apply
For many volunteer positions, all that's required is a willingness to help and a phone call.
However, individuals who will be working with children must go through a screening process to
ensure children's safety. For information about volunteer opportunities, call the City and

also call the phone number listed at the end of each volunteer description.
Naturalist Helper
Help visiting elementary school groups learn about plants and animals at Westwood Hills
Nature Center. Training on nature units and working with children is provided.
Requirements
- Volunteer one day a week for five hours plus Tuesday morning training sessions once or twice a month
- Enjoy working with children
- Interest in nature and willingness to work outdoors in all kinds of weather
- Pass a criminal history background check.

Nature Center Helpers
The Nature Center is looking for adults who can fix and build things (bird feeders, program props, etc.). They also need volunteers to maintain trails and plant trees and flowers. For more information, call (952) 928-6025.
Park spring cleanup
Individuals who enjoy working outdoors can give neighborhood parks a good spring
cleaning. Volunteers are assigned a park and given garbage bags and a form for reporting
repair needs. Individuals or groups are welcome.
Requirements
- Volunteer two to three hours in April
