Update (May 27, 2020): Residents are encouraged to continue to enjoy trails and open space. Please maintain physical distancing while using parks and equipment, use hand sanitizer and stay home if you are sick.

  • All city playgrounds and play structures are now open. Staff will be removing closure signs this week. As a reminder, playground equipment is not sanitized.

  • Starting June 1, parks staff will begin installing batting cages for use in city parks and at athletic fields. Equipment is not sanitized.

  • Associations wishing to use city athletic fields for instruction purposes only (no games) with 10 or fewer participants must submit a COVID-19 preparedness plan to recreation staff. Once approved, field reservations will be taken. Contact Jim Lombardi at or 952.924.2538 for more information.

  • Installation of nets on alternating pickleball and tennis courts, as well as installation of only one rim at full-size basketball courts, will continue to help maintain physical distancing and group gathering restrictions.

  • The outdoor skate park at Carpenter Park and all park picnic shelters remain closed due to inability to limit the number of users at these facilities.

(Update: May 14, 2020) Portable toilets have been placed in several high-use parks, including Aquila, Bass Lake, Browndale, Fern Hill, Lamplighter, Louisiana Oaks, Oak Hill, Texa-Tonka/Victoria Pond and Wolfe parks, as well as the dog park at Dakota Park and at Westwood Hills Nature Center. Portable toilets are cleaned twice a week by the contracted vendor. Due to hand sanitizer shortages the dispensers in the portable toilet units may not always be stocked. Please plan ahead and carry your own hand sanitizer with you. Note the portable toilets are stocked with hand sanitizer with high alcohol content to be more effective; the high alcohol content also makes it less gel-like than other hand sanitizers.
