City Council asks Charter Commission to make recommendations related to municipal elections
The next regular meeting of the Charter Commission is January 10 at 5:30 p.m.; discussion continues on the topic of ranked choice voting.
At its Monday, Oct. 2, regular meeting, the St. Louis Park City Council passed a resolution requesting the St. Louis Park Charter Commission provide recommendations to the city council regarding two possible charter amendments about municipal elections, one of which pertained to implementation of ranked choice voting (RCV) starting with November 2019 municipal elections. The other amendment is related to campaign finance contribution limits. The Charter Commission subsequently met on Oct. 24, 2017, to review and discuss these two possible charter amendments. Following extensive discussion, the Charter Commission determined that more information and discussion was needed regarding the implementation of ranked choice voting (RCV) before a recommendation could be made to the City Council. The Charter Commission scheduled another meeting for Dec. 6, 2017, at 5:30 p.m., and directed staff to return with additional information in response to the questions raised by commission members.
