City of St. Louis Park stormwater improvement project to receive Environmental Excellence Award

Post Date:December 11, 2017 6:00 a.m.

The City of St. Louis Park has been informed that the Carpenter Park Stormwater Improvement Project has been selected to receive the Minnesota Erosion Control Association (MECA) 2018 Environmental Excellence Award. The award will be presented at the MECA annual conference Jan. 25, 2018. This project at Carpenter Park, 3001 Raleigh Ave. S., involved installing a large concrete vault below the park’s surface to collect stormwater from a 42-acre watershed. The vault includes a stormwater treatment filter system that removes sediment and harmful nutrients, such as phosphorus, from the stormwater before discharging it downstream to Bass Lake Preserve. In addition to the stormwater treatment benefits, the project improved drainage conditions at Carpenter Park, providing level surfaces for both existing playfields and the new 6,500-square-foot, all-concrete plaza-style skate park installed in fall 2017.
