Street sweeping citywide April 22 – 26
The City of St. Louis Park will be sweeping all city streets beginning Monday, April 22, weather permitting.
The city will not post “No parking” signs, but encourages all residents to refrain from parking on any residential streets between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. April 22 – 26. Any parked cars will be swept around and material will be cleaned up the next time the city sweeps streets, which typically occurs in early June after the trees leaf out.
The city has contracted with a private contractor to assist in this sweeping effort. The benefits of hiring additional sweepers is to help with stormwater quality and to free up more time for other springtime maintenance responsibilities such as patching pot holes, retaining wall repairs and pavement restoration from watermain breaks.
Important reminder - Keep grass and leaves off the streets
Sweeping grass clippings, leaves and other organic materials into the street is bad for our local lakes, creeks and rivers. These materials can wash into storm drains and end up in our local water bodies. As these natural pollutants break down, they can cause algae to grow and negatively affect water quality.
Sweeping leaves into street prohibited (Sec. 24-51)
If you rake leaves into the street, you are in violation of city ordinance and may be fined up to $100. No person should sweep or deposit leaves, grass clippings or other yard waste onto any sidewalk, public property or public way. Violation of this provision is declared a nuisance under section 12-31. (Ord. No. 2260-03, 12-1-03)
