Ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrates St. Louis Park's largest rooftop solar array
On June 6, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Extra Space Storage to celebrate the completion of St. Louis Park's largest rooftop solar array. More than 45 people attended the event, which included remarks from St. Louis Park Mayor Jake Spano, Extra Space Storage District Manager Traci Poirier and IPS Solar C&I Solar Developer Steve Oman. After the ribbon cutting, attendees were invited to take a rooftop tour to see the solar installation up close.
The new 210-kilowatt (kW) solar installation is comprised of 575 rooftop solar modules and will produce an estimated 259,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually, which offsets more than 50 percent of the building’s annual electrical consumption. Over the next 25 years, the system is expected to offset nearly 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The completion of the solar installation supports the city’s Climate Action Plan goal of achieving carbon neutrality – a net zero footprint – in St. Louis Park by 2040.
