Parklets are coming to St. Louis Park!

Post Date:June 26, 2019 9:30 a.m.

Parklet near Mexico City CafeParklets are seasonal extensions of pedestrian space aimed to activate and enliven public space, calm motor vehicle traffic and help communities re-imagine the uses of streets. They can be found in a number of Minnesota cities, including Minneapolis and Duluth. Parklets come in all styles, though they all occupy the dimensions that are typically used for the temporary storage of motor vehicles (7 feet by 14 feet).

The parklet is a pilot project the city is undertaking to gauge the community’s interest for it and similar demonstration projects that enhance pedestrian spaces.

Where will the parklet go?

The city has installed its first parklet in front of Mexico City Café, located at 6416 W. Lake St. The parklet adds seating, green space and improves walking conditions in the Historic Walker Lake district. Although it is installed in front of Mexico City Café, it is open to the public to use regardless if you patronage the café or not.

The parklet will be installed for a minimum of six weeks, with the possibility of staying the entire summer.
