City shifts electric accounts to Windsource® program
The City of St. Louis Park recently shifted its electric accounts that are not currently using renewable energy to Xcel Energy’s Windsource program. This will ensure all electricity used by city operations will be powered by 100
percent renewable energy. The decision to subscribe to Windsource aligns with the city’s Climate Action Plan midterm goal of achieving 100 percent renewable electricity use by 2030.
Xcel Energy’s Windsource program provides customers with the option to purchase renewable energy for their homes and businesses. More than 35,000 Minnesota homes and businesses currently participate in the program.
Energy that supplies Windsource is generated locally by Xcel Energy.
While the city’s participation in this program is a step toward achieving its Climate Action Plan goal, municipal operations make up less than two percent of greenhouse gas emissions communitywide. Reaching carbon neutrality (having a net zero carbon footprint) by 2040 will require residents and businesses to also increase participation in renewable programs such as Windsource and Renewable Connect.
Visit Xcel Energy's website for more information about Windsource and how to participate as a business or resident.
