The City of St. Louis Park and Metro Blooms are partnering to help St. Louis Park homeowners install rain gardens at a lower cost! Up to 10 St. Louis Park homeowners will receive an onsite consultation, rain garden design and installation from Metro Blooms and the Conservation Corps of Minnesota during summer 2018. Homeowners pay $50 for their consultation, plus the cost of plants and mulch, averaging $200-$400 per rain garden. In addition, the city will reimburse up to 75 percent of the homeowners direct cost consistent with the rainwater rewards guidelines, including the fee to use Metro Blooms. Metro Blooms will order the plants for each rain garden participant; homeowners will be responsible for planting. The city is subsidizing a portion of the cost of the consultation, design and installation – making it a great, low-cost opportunity for you!

Why install a rain garden

Rain gardens offer a number of benefits, including:

  • Protect and preserve groundwater quality and quantity
  • Preserve and restore native plant and wildlife communities
  • Protect and restore stormwater by capturing pollutants from rainwater runoff
  • Provide habitat for pollinators
  • Add a beautiful landscaping feature to your yard

How to participate

If you would like to participate in the grant program and schedule a consultation, contact Jennifer Ehlert at with your name, email, address and phone number. Consultations will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. The consultation includes identifying runoff conditions on your property, taking measurements, determining the appropriate size for your rain garden and selecting plants.
