Skating is available at The Rec Center's indoor ice arena for skating lessons, open public skating, adult open hockey and youth open hockey. Contact The Rec Center at 952.924.2540 for additional information or with any questions.

Skating lessons 

St. Louis Park Skate School offers the Ice Skating Institute (I.S.I.) weSKATE program for ages four and up. Each class presents a progression of specific skills that build upon one another. View a list of current ice skating and hockey lessons.

Open public skating

Open public skating is available for all ages Sept. 5  March 31. No registration is required.

Indoor public skating

Indoor public skating is available at The Rec Center.

Open hockey

Adult open hockey

Open hockey is available at The Rec Center's indoor ice arena for ages 16 and over.

  • When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 4  Dec. 20, noon 1 :30 p.m. (no hockey Nov. 22)
  • Fee: $5 per person/$45 for 10-pass punch card
Youth open hockey

Youth open hockey is for ages 6  15. It is recommended that a parent or guardian be in attendance during skating sessions. this is a drop-in program without staff supervision.

  • When: April 1  5, 10:15  11:45 a.m.
  • Fee: $5 per person/$45 for 10-pass punch card

Developmental open ice skating

Development open ice skating is available for figure skaters to practice their skating skills with or without a private lesson. Admission can be paid for on a monthly basis, with a six-pass punch card or individual one-time entrances. During developmental ice, there are no hockey pucks, hockey sticks or games allowed.

  • When: Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 a.m., Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 a.m.; Saturdays, 7 – 8 a.m.
  • Fees: Online registration is available for monthly admission. One-time entrances and punch cards can be purchased at The Rec Center.
    • Monthly admission – $24-40 (skaters must pre-register prior to the first day of the month)
    • One-time entrance – $10
    • Six-pass punch card – $48

Rec Center Skate Shop

The skate shop is located in The Rec Center next to the gallery in between the west and east arenas. The shop features rental skates, skate sharpening and a small pro shop.

The shop is open Saturdays 10 a.m  noon and Sundays 2  4 p.m. Skate rental and sharpening services are available by request outside of these hours. You can drop off skates and they will be sharpened within 48 hours.

Skate rentals are $3 and skate sharpening is $5 per pair.

Rec Center ice rink rental

The Rec Center's indoor ice rink can be rented for birthday parties, family celebrations and company or school events. The Gallery Room is included for two hours without additional charge. The Banquet Room can also be reserved at half price. Up to 15 rental skates are included with private ice rental. Rental rates and application form.

Indoor skating party

During open public skating, the Gallery Room or Banquet Room can be rented for private parties. Rental fee includes use of a room for two hours and admission to open skating for up to 15 people. Rental rates and application form.
