The City of St. Louis Park has initiated a sidewalk poetry program where poems submitted by residents and students of St. Louis Park schools will be stamped into local public sidewalks.

The new sidewalk to be constructed along the high school stadium on Lake Street between Dakota Avenue and Walker Street, and on Walker Street between Lake Street and The Block restaurant. Selected poems may also be used in other locations in the city during future sidewalk construction or repair projects.

Purpose

Sidewalk poetry builds a sense of local identity and creates unexpected moments of pause, contemplation and reflection for pedestrians.

We are looking for poetry that:

  • Expresses a sense of location and local identity
  • Is rooted in cultural expression
  • Connects to personal, community and environmental health and well-being
  • Explores the concept of place and time

Selection process

A local jury will conduct a blind judging process, without names attached to the submittals. Selected poems will be announced in late July or early August 2020.

Poems not chosen for the current project will be considered for use in future sidewalk poetry projects.

Chosen poems will be listed on the city's public art map with the title and author.
