ROC (Recreation Outdoor Center)

The ROC (Recreation Outdoor Center) is a multi-use outdoor recreational facility located on the campus of The Rec Center.

The facility is used as a covered ice rink in the winter months for hockey, open public skating, broomball and other special skating events. In the spring, it can be converted to a covered, turfed field for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse, as well as special events such as the annual spring egg hunt. During the summer, a dry, concrete floor provides space for the Children First Ice Cream Social and a variety of other special events from weddings to movies in the park, to graduation parties.

Facility rental information

The ROC's has three different rental opportunities depending on the time of year - turf rental, dry floor rental and ice arena rental. The facility rental space measures 200 feet by 85 feet and includes bleacher seating for 450. Call 952.924.2540 to reserve your event. 

Turf rental, March 23 – May 8

The outdoor facility will have turf, which is great for soccer, football or other activities.

Plan your wedding or next event at the ROC. The outdoor facility accommodates up to 700 people for wedding receptions, Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties, company events, birthday parties and large-scale gatherings. The facility rental includes a PA system. There is a $60 food and beverage fee for events over 100 people.

Rent the outdoor ice arena for birthday parties, celebrations and company or school events. Up to 15 rental skates are included with private ice rental.

Outdoor public skating will be available at the ROC from Nov. 9  March 17, weather permitting.

Open pond hockey at the ROC is free and available for all ages from Nov. 10  March 17.

Walking the ROC 

Come get your walk on at the ROC! From May – September, Walking the ROC will be daily from 8 – 10 a.m. This is free and for all ages.

Drop-in basketball

Drop-in basketball will be available Tuesdays, Sept. 4 – Oct. 9 from 7 – 9 p.m.

Family movie nights

Join us Thursdays for these fun family movies from the past. The event is free and for all ages. Concessions will be available.

  • Oct. 11, 6:45 p.m. — Back to the Future
  • Oct. 18, 6:30 p.m. — Mighty Ducks
ROCtoberfest

Friday, Sept. 28, 5 – 10 p.m. 

Polka away under the ROC. Live music, food, beverages, beer and games/challenges for all ages.

  • Fee: $5 per person at the gate. Children ages 5 and under are free.
Make or Break — Pro wrestling at the ROC

Sunday, Sept. 30, 3 – 8 p.m. (music 3 – 4 p.m.; wrestling 4 – 8 p.m.)

Enjoy live music and high flying, hard hitting professional wrestling with the Midwest's top professional wrestlers. Presented by Midwest Wrestling Elite. This will be entertainment for the entire family! Register online.

  • Fee: $15 per ticket, general admission. Children 10 and under are free
Fall Skate School Showcase

Saturday, Nov. 10, 7 – 8:30 p.m. 

Meet the St. Louis Park Skate School coaches, learn more about the program, enjoy an exhibition by local skaters and register for ice skating lessons.

Open pond hockey

Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 10 – March 17, 11 a.m. – noon

Enjoy open pond hockey at the ROC November through March.

Turkeys on Ice

Wednesday, Nov. 21, noon – 1:30 p.m.

Free indoor and outdoor holiday skating, plus free skate rental.
